This is one of Active Italy's most popular packages that takes you on a journey to Rome, through Tuscany and ending in Venice. Be guided through the Vatican Museums, St. Peter's Basilica and the ancient Roman monuments of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Pantheon. Then you will travel north to the undiscovered secret of the Maremma area of Tuscany. This area is soon to be the "new Chianti". It is not well known outside of Italy yet and it is a hidden jewel. Taste the wines of Scansano and enjoy an excursion in the natural thermal pools of Saturnia. Continue on your journey to the center of the Renaissance Italy, Florence. Here you will get an in-depth understanding of the works of Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Donatello and others of that era with guided visits to the Uffizi Gallery, Accademia and il Duomo. You'll next visit Pisa for a chance to marvel and architectural miracle of the Leaning Tower. We will depart Tuscany for Venice with a stop at Padua. In Venice you'll stroll the narrow pedestrian walkways through the city and a chance to take a famous gondola ride on the Venetian canals.

Day to Day Highlights

Day 0: Overnight Flight to Italy

Day 1: Welcome to Italy: Rome

• Arrive in Rome Fiumicino Airport and meet an Active Italy representative outside the baggage claim area then be transferred to the hotel by private mini-van.
• You may choose to rest and recover from your flight or go on leisure walking tour of Piazza Navona, Piazza Campo de’ Fiori, Piazza di Spagna, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon.• Welcome Dinner.

Day 2: Rome

• Enjoy a buffet breakfast to start the day.
• Walk alongside a professional guide for a private tour of the Colosseum and the heart of religious, political and social life in the ancient Rome.The Roman Forum was the main marketplace and business center. You’ll walk on the Via Sacra, and relive a day in the ancient Rome. You’ll see buildings like the Curia Julia, the House of the Vestals or triumphal arches and important temples. You’ll discover the Palatine: the place where according to the legend Rome was founded by Romulus in the 753 B.C. Imperial palaces were later built here so that the word Palatine came to be synonymous with “the palace of the emperor”. Then you’ll go inside the Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheater, the symbol of Rome.

Day 3: Rome/Vatican City

• Transfer by private mini-van to Vatican City
• Morning guided tour of Vatican City including entrances to the Vatican Museum Rooms. and Sistine Chapel. Enjoy an amazing private Vatican tour in one of the largest museums in the world. Vatican Museums contain some of the world’s greatest art treasures. During this walk you’ll see the Pio Clementino Museum with its amazing Octagonal Courtyard, the Gallery of the Candelabras, the Gallery of the Tapestries, the Gallery of the Geographical Maps, the “Stanze” decorated by Raphael and the Michelangelo’ s Sistine Chapel. Then you’ll be inside the St Peter’s Basilica, the most imposing church of Christendom.

Day 4: Rome/Maremma

• In the morning be driven your resort near Scansanno where you’ll be staying for the next couple days. Visit a local vineyard for a wine tasting and farm lunch.
• Dinner at resort.

Day 5: Maremma/Saturnia

• Today you visit the famous Saturnia natural thermal spa resort for a day excursion. Dip the the naturally warm waters and relax. Options for additional services such as massage or beauty treatments.
• Dinner at resort.

Day 6: Maremma/San Gimignano/Florence

• On your way to Florence you will stop for lunch in San Gimigano that includes a demonstration of making a typical Tuscan dinner.
• Walk up the the Piazza Michelangelo to get a birds-eye view of the city then visit the Duomo Cathedral.
• Evening dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 7: Florence

• Be guided through the Ufizzi Gallery and Accademia.
• Evening free at your own leisure.

Day 8: Florence/Pisa

• Day exursion to Pisa.
• Evening free at your own leisure.

Day 9: Florence/Padua/Venice

• Depart Florence to Venice. On the way stop in Padua for lunch and a guided walking tour.
• Evening dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 10: Venice

• Guiding walking tour of Venice. Opportunity to take a gondola ride on the Venetian canals.
• Farewell Dinner.

Day 11: Venice/Departure

• Be transferred to the Venice airport for return flight. Arrivederci!
